To help with ideas I was experimenting in Photoshop, inspired by Norman McLaren's 'Dots'. I took a random song I like and brought it in to After Effects, made a solid for a background and made a circle shape. I then used the waveform to tell where to set my keyframes for the scale so it would appear and shrink to the drum beat.
This was just a quick experiment based on the ideas I had from my research.
